tatsumi orimoto, otherwise known as “the bread man,” concentrates on the familiar within the strange. his photographs revolve around the mental and physical decline of his mother, “art mama,” who is now kickin’ it with alzheimer’s at the ripe old age of 86. he also throws himself into many of the photog’s with his “art mama,” creating a unique and strangely intimate visual dialogue. this guy lives with his mom because he needs to take care of her. together, in a “my mom has alzheimer’s” kind of way, they document these absurd bread-man & art-mama performances to create the subject oforimoto’s work.
